Promotion and Job Interview Boot Camp

Based on popular demand from members, the TFCA and On-Demand Leadership are proud to announce a new two-day boot camp designed to increase your competitiveness for promotion to chief-level positions like battalion chief, assistant chief, and fire chief.

This two-day workshop provides the tools, strategies, and practice you need to immediately increase your competitiveness as a chief-level candidate. The boot camp is co-taught by Fire Chief Robert Isbell and Dr. Geoffrey Tumlin, and it includes input from chiefs and city leaders throughout Texas.

The Promotion and Job Interview Boot Camp prepares you for the promotion and selection process by focusing on the following seven elements of most chief-level job searches:

  1. Understanding the job posting
  2. Integrating your resume and letter of interest w/the job
  3. Acing the writing exercise
  4. Nailing the candidate video interviews
  5. Excelling at the meet & greet
  6. Mastering panel interviews, and
  7. Connecting with the decision maker

Learning objectives for the Promotion and Job Interview Boot Camp

  • Increase your understanding of the fire chief selection process to improve your chances of getting hired as or promoted to chief.

About the Instructors:

Fire Chief Robert Isbell, currently chief of Round Rock, Texas, has also been fire chief in Southlake, Euless, and Midland. He has decades of experience on both sides of the hiring process—as a candidate and as the hiring/promotion agent—in hundreds of fire service job searches.

Dr. Geoffrey Tumlin advises fire chiefs, senior leaders, and job candidates throughout the US on promotion and hiring. He taught Job Interviewing at the University of Texas for years, and served as the chief personnel officer of an army infantry battalion.
